Automotive collectors, enthusiasts and media descended onto the Monterey Peninsula for the famed Automotive Week activities, held August 17-21. Lamborghini’s new V12 flagship, the Aventador LP 700-4, dominated the five days of high-end concours, events and private drives.
Lamborghini kicked off the events on Wednesday, August 17 with a display at the 20th annual McCall’s Motorworks Revival. The Aventador LP 700-4 and its stripped-down carbon fiber chassis were on display along with the Gallardo LP 550-2 Bicolore and LP 570-4 Spyder Performante. The vehicles surrounded an U.S. Navy F/A-18 Hornet, the perfect fit for the sharp, aggressive lines and powerful performance of Lamborghini vehicles.
The following day, Lamborghini hosted guests at a private drive event for individuals who had registered at the Motorworks party. Approximately 50 lucky drivers had the opportunity to get behind the wheel of the Aventador LP 700-4 or a Gallardo model including the LP 560-4 Spyder, LP 550-2 Bicolore, LP 570-4 Superleggera and LP 570-4 Spyder Performante.
On Friday, August 19, Lamborghini displayed two attention-grabbing Aventador LP 700-4’s and the carbon fiber chassis at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. The brand also showed its new carbon fiber bag line, and sold items from the Collezione Automobili Lamborghini fashion line. By the end of the show, a sea of brightly-colored bull logos and Italian flags were visible on attendees all over the show field.
That same day, Lamborghini was awarded the prestigious Five Diamond Engineering Award at Concorso Italiano, a gathering of Italian vehicles. Lamborghini board member and Director of Research and Development Maurizio Reggiani accepted the award, which was given for the outstanding innovations of the new Aventador LP 700-4.
“We are excited and honored to accept this award from Concorso Italiano,” Mr. Reggiani said. “Lamborghini’s Research and Development team is extremely proud of the Aventador LP 700-4, and the design and engineering aspects that make it so special in this market.”
On Saturday, August 20, Lamborghini hosted a private drive event at Pasadera Country Club in Monterey. Authorized dealers from San Francisco/Los Gatos, Beverly Hills, Newport Beach and Houston hosted customers for test drives in their respective Aventador LP 700-4’s. High-profile automotive media also attended the test drive event, including Tonight Show host Jay Leno.
While not on the road, guests at Pasadera could check out the newest timepieces from Blancpain, Lamborghini’s partner in the Super Trofeo race series, as well as try out new clubs from Callaway Golf, a carbon fiber research and development partner.
To conclude the week’s events, the Aventador LP 700-4 and its rolling chassis were displayed on the prestigious Concept Car Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Sunday, August 21.
