The New, Seventh-Generation 2012 Porsche 911 Debuts at Boardwalk Porsche

Boardwalk Porsche today announced that the new Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera S models have arrived in their Plano, Texas showroom. The latest generation of the iconic Porsche 911 goes on sale Feb. 4.

Following its introduction last Fall, automotive media world-wide have designated the latest 911 as the best iteration of Ferdinand Porsche’s sports car vision yet. It is destined to remain every bit the icon it has been since its 1964 debut.

“Whether this will be a customer’s first or just their latest Porsche 911, it’s going to be the most exhilarating driving and ownership experience yet,” said Boardwalk Porsche General Manager, Mike Marsh. “The 911 Carrera and Carrera S are the ultimate choices for drivers who want a true benchmark-setting sports car that they can put through its paces and enjoy all week long, not just for show or on weekends.”

For 2012, the 911 has been completely redesigned from the ground up. The new model applies singular balance to the priorities of a new era, preserving the classic 911 lines, yet revisiting every inch for advances in power and fuel economy. While enthusiasts will recognize the 2012 911 Carrera at a glance, 90 percent of its components are either new or fundamentally revised.

Its sleek and stretched silhouette, pulse-pounding contours and precisely designed features signal its rich heritage from every viewing angle. Longer, lower, wider, 100 lbs. lighter, faster and more efficient than previous models, the 911 is the perfect blend of modern design, intelligent engineering and performance DNA.

In addition to aesthetic improvements, both new models offer significant performance enhancements. The 2012 911 Carrera is equipped with a new, 350-horsepower, 3.4-liter boxer engine, while the Carrera S features a 400-horsepower, 3.8-liter boxer engine—a 15hp improvement versus its predecessor. The 911 Carrera with Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) accelerates from zero to 60 in 4.4 seconds, while the Carrera S sprints from zero to 60 in a mere 4.1 seconds. That time is reduced even further to 3.9 seconds when equipped with the Sports Chrono Package Plus. Top track speeds for the 911 Carrera and Carrera S are 179 and 188 mph, respectively.

As with every generation, the new 911 Carrera continues to raise the bar in both performance and efficiency. This is achieved through systems such as the Automatic Start/Stop function, engine and transmission thermal management, electrical system recuperation, the world’s first seven-speed manual transmission and—in conjunction with PDK—the ability to ‘sail’ or coast. The new electro-mechanical power steering offers the typical Porsche precision and helps to increase efficiency and reduce fuel consumption.

The new 911 Carrera Coupe will have a base MSRP of $82,100, and the 911 Carrera S Coupe will start at $96,400 (excluding destination fees).

Audi Super Bowl Spot to Highlight Signature LED Technology and 2013 Audi S7

  • For the 5th year in a row, Audi will air a :60 spot in the first quarter

– Audi revealed details of its highly-anticipated Super Bowl advertisement, slated to run in the first quarter of the big game on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012. In the upcoming 60-second spot, the brand’s signature LED headlights will take center stage along with the new 2013 Audi S7 sedan. The story theme remains undisclosed.

“With LED, there’s no mistaking an Audi. Since pioneering the technology nearly ten years ago, LED lights have established the Audi persona have become one of the most recognizable features on the road,” said Scott Keogh, Chief Marketing Officer, Audi of America. “Like our LEDs, this year’s Super Bowl spot will be unmistakably Audi.”

At 5,500 Kelvin, Audi LED headlights are the closest re-creation of daylight available, providing numerous safety benefits, such as helping drivers’ eyes perceive more contrast experience less strain. Traditional lights take 0.2 seconds to engage, while LEDs are immediately activated making driving safer, faster. In addition to safety, LED lights save resources by using 50-percent less power required from the alternator – which in turn reduces the load put on the vehicle’s engine – and can last the lifetime of a vehicle.

Throughout February, enthusiasts can visit Audiusa.com to interact with LED-themed content and learn more about Audi’s signature technology, including its design, safety, efficiency and performance benefits. Beginning on January 29, visitors to the Audi Forum in New York can explore an interactive LED-focused digital experience.

The all-new Audi S7 combines thrilling performance, stunning design, and intelligent efficiency technologies in a package that further enhances Audi’s exciting new A7 five-door coupe. Super Bowl XLVI marks the brand‘s fifth consecutive time as an advertiser in the big game. San Francisco-based Venables Bell & Partners is creating the spot.

In last year’s “Release the Hounds” spot, Audi became the first Super Bowl advertiser in history to tag an ad with a Twitter hashtag. The adventurous spot, featuring the new Audi A8 flagship sedan, was a parody of individuals attempting to escape from the confines of old luxury as portrayed in a luxury prison. The spot also featured a comical cameo by legendary musician Kenny G.

In 2010, Audi’s Super Bowl ad showcased a soundtrack created by rock legends Cheap Trick and featured the A3 TDI “Green Car of the Year” clean diesel vehicle, showing how easy being green can be. The brand’s 2009 spot featured actor Jason Statham in a series of high-speed chase scenes involving luxury competitors, sending the message that luxury is evolving. In 2008, the brand’s first Super Bowl spot delivered a parody of the movie “The Godfather,” signaling that Audi was ready to take on the perceived luxury leaders.

The new Boxster generation – the mid-engine roadster from Porsche

Stuttgart. Never before in the history of the Porsche Boxster was a change of generation so comprehensive. The open-top two-seater car is being marketed with a completely new lightweight body and a completely revamped chassis. Considerably lower weight, longer wheelbase, a wider track and larger wheels significantly enhance yet further the mid-engine sports car’s driving dynamics, already far and away the best in its class, supported by the new electro-mechanical power steering. The new Boxsters boast superior performance and are also up to 15 per cent more fuelefficient. Depending on model, they get by with significantly less than eight litres of fuel per 100 kilometres.

The new Boxster thus delivers what the fundamentally changed styling with shorter overhangs, significantly forward-shifted windscreen, flatter silhouette and expressive edges promises. The passengers are enclosed by the completely redesigned, fully electric hood, which now dispenses with a convertible top compartment lid. The interior concept offers the occupants more space and reflects the new Porsche outline with the raked centre console, which, originating with the Carrera GT, ensures further improved ergonomics in all models.

The new sports car generation makes its debut in the classic Porsche pairing of Boxster and Boxster S. Both models are powered by flat-six engines with direct petrol injection, the efficiency of which is further enhanced by electrical system recuperation, thermal management and start/stop function. The base model’s new power unit delivers 265 hp (195 kW) from a 2.7 litre displacement – ten hp more than its larger displacement predecessor. Technically, it is now based on the 3.4-litre engine of the Boxster S. This now delivers 315 hp (232 kW), which is five hp more than before. Both models feature a manual six-speed gearbox as standard with the seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) available as an option. Both sports cars achieve their best fuel consumption and acceleration performance with the PDK. The Porsche Boxster’s fuel consumption with PDK is 7.7 l/100 km and 8.0 l/100 km for the Boxster S. With gear changes without interruption to the power flow, the Boxster sprints from zero to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, the Boxster S in 5.0 seconds.

To enhance driving dynamics yet further, Porsche offers the Sport Chrono Package as an optional extra for the Boxster, featuring dynamic transmission mounts for the first time. Also new in the Boxster is Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with mechanical rear axle differential lock..

The market launch of the new Boxster generation will be on 14.04.2012. The basic list price in Germany will be 48,291 euro for the Boxster and 59,120 euro for the Boxster S, including 19 per cent value added tax in both cases.

The extended wheelbase now has an additional inch more of leg room in the front than in previous 911 models. The materials used, the layout of the controls and their operating logic belong to a new generation of sports car. Another new design for the new 911 is the elevated center console. Its intelligent operating concept follows a clear principle of direct simplicity.
