Top Selling U.S. Sedan Offers German Engineering at an Accessible Price

Herndon, VA – The 2011 Volkswagen Jetta was chosen today by Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com as one of the 2011 Top 10 Coolest New Cars Under $18,000. Editors at kbb.com searched for the most enjoyable vehicles that get you from point A to point B without breaking the bank.

With ‘fun-to-drive’ and ‘fun-to-own’ as Kelley Blue Book’s focal criteria, the 2011 Jetta continues the model’s legacy of delivering an exceptional driving experience. With Jetta sales up more than 70 percent compared to last year, consumers are seizing the opportunity to buy a German engineered sedan with sophisticated style at an accessible price. New Jetta purchases have contributed to Volkswagen’s 27.9 percent increase in year over year sales, making May 2011 the company’s best sales month since August 2003.

The new Jetta comes standard with the Intelligent Crash Response System (ICRS), which is unique in its class. ICRS turns off the fuel pump, activates the hazard lights and unlocks the doors in the case of an airbag deployment. The 2011 Jetta is also covered under the no-charge Carefree Maintenance Program. All scheduled maintenance is covered for the length of the New Vehicle Warranty – three years or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

The 2012 VW Jetta GLI partners with Fender

Driving the all-new performance inspired 2012 VW Jetta GLI is definitely an experience, and the Fender audio system provides the soundtrack. It’s no small honor that Fender, arguably the most iconic name in audio, partnered exclusively with Volkswagen to make sure the new line up of VWs sound as good as they drive.

The GLI already prowls the streets with a rock star attitude. With its aggressive stance, 2.0-liter, 200hp turbocharged engine, interior sticking, honeycomb grill and flashy red caliper breaks the GLI is photogenic and it knows it. And with the addition of the Fender Premium Audio System the final piece of the puzzle is in place. This nine-speaker system is specifically designed to capture the raw emotion of a live performance, making it a “face-melting” audio experience. And according to Brian Tedeschi, Fender’s Business Affairs manager, that’s a technical term.

We had Danielle Gumro catch-up and rock-out (literally) at the Chicago Auto Show with the big brains at Fender to hear the inspiration and science behind the gut-busting sound. This state-of the-art sound system was the product of over three years of research and development to bring unmatched audio clarity at high and low volume to your driving experience. In laymen’s terms this means a lot of really smart people spent a really long time making sure that this audio system is going to be better, louder and generally more “face-melting” than anything you’ve heard before.

Bill Hader vs. the “dangerously roomy” all-new 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

VW webisodes starring Saturday Night Live comedian Bill Hader and the 2011 Jetta are headed to a small screen near you. Paired with VW product specialist Danielle Gumro and SNL writer John Mulaney, Bill (weʼre on a first name basis now) brings his comedic style to the new series “Inside the VW Academy.”

The series weaves together useful and hard-hitting product features while managing to be at least a bajillion times more entertaining than the ownerʼs manual. The first round of videos feature the Jetta, Touareg and Tiguan models and will be featured on the official Volkswagen YouTube channel and on the completely redesigned VW website.

“There was a real collaboration between Volkswagen and Bill Hader on the set of ʻInside the VW Academy,ʼ and the unscripted comedy resulted in a unique and interesting format to engage consumers,” said Tim Ellis, Vice President of Marketing, Volkswagen of America, Inc. “This high quality online entertainment highlights our superior German engineering in a new way and underscores all the value you get when buying a Volkswagen.”

“I was excited to get to work with the elusive Danielle Gumro. But I was bummed I couldn’t keep my wardrobe from the shoot,” added actor Bill Hader.

The Jetta, Touareg and Tiguan will each be featured in three videos that highlight key features, safety, performance and technology, and each video shows a competitive comparison. The content will provide factual details interspersed with funny dialogue and comedic improv. Consumers will also be able to post the videos via YouTube and Facebook.

The company’s partnership with Fender will equip select 2012 models with the all-new Fender Premium Audio System.
